Sorry, the Alumni Course is closed – the next opportunity to join will be in January of 2027!

Welcome back to another year of the Animal Emotions course!

As with all my courses, re-taking the course costs only a fraction of the full course, so for the Animal Emotions that is 49 US$, plus taxes.

The 2025 course will be dismantled at the end of January 2025, so the only way to stay with the material beyond that deadline is to re-join as an alumnus.

Each year, the old course gets dismantled, so when you join again, it’s with all the new students, and with the modules released weekly as before, in a new and (hopefully) improved version of the course.

What’s new since you took it last? Well, every year I lift new questions/answers from the comments section, update the links lists, and the live bonus webinars are of course different every time.

And naturally, the discussions happening in the comments section are always different from year to year.

I will update the course as it’s being delivered, and I’m not foreseeing many big changes for 2026, other than that I’m rerecording all the introductory videos. Here are the big revisions or completely new chapters that I’ve added over the years:

Introduction
  • 2018: Added nerd section.
  • 2019: Revised understanding emotions
  • 2019: Added chapter: emotions versus behaviour.
  • 2022: Added 2 chapters: polyvagal theory (moved from last module) and co-regulation.
  • 2023: Added a chapter on diet and behaviour
Core Affect Space
  • 2019: Added chapter: arousal learning and performance
  • 2020: Added chapter: reading body language.

  • 2025: Updated chapter on arousal, learning and performance.
CARE
  • 2019: Added section on cute aggression in reflections chapter
  • 2022: Added chapter on CARE, CAS and polyvagal theory, and a section about horse brushes in reflections chapter.
GRIEF
  • 2019: Completely revised emotions and learning chapter
  • 2022: Added several sections about polyvagal theory and rephrased the “poisoned” section as “infected”.
PLAY
  • 2019: Added new chapter: Wanna PLAY?
  • 2019: Added new chapter: playing with animals
  • 2019: Revised section on PLAY and training
  • 2022: Added section about polyvagal theory to reflections chapter.
LUST
  • 2017: Added new chapter: harems, bachelors and other groups.
  • 2020: Added new chapter: managing LUST
  • 2022: Added new chapter: adolescence, and sections about polyvagal theory.
SEEKING
  • 2020: revised SEEKING and foraging
  • 2022: discussed polyvagal theory in the appetitive/consummatory chapter.
  • 2024: revised SEEKING and foraging (again)
FEAR
  • 2018: Revised FEAR – the behaviours.
  • 2018: Replaced fear-or cheeze conditioning with new video
  • 2022: Added the predatory imminence continuum, defense cascade and a discharge illustration to FEAR – the behaviours, as well as negativity bias and why fear learning is so persistent to the learned fears chapter. Added a new chapter: stress. Also incorporated a discussion of polyvagal theory and resilience in preventions chapter, as well as fear-related memories and an interesting nosework tweak in the diminishing/eliminating FEAR chapter.
  • 2023: Replaced the nerd section
  • 2024: revised FEAR and other emotions
RAGE
  • 2022 – returned to the predatory imminence continuum and defense cascade in the introductory chapter. Added the categorical and dimensional bucket to the “what is aggression” chapter and “how heavy is a glass of water” to the triggers chapter. Letting a bunch of Disney princesses illustrate some key players modulating aggression. And discuss sensory integration, nosework and slow thinking in the mechanisms that defuse RAGE chapter.
Wrap up
  • 2018: revised Relationships – chapter
  • 2019: Added new chapter: polyvagal theory
  • 2022: Moved polyvagal theory to module 1, added 2 new chapters: the human’s emotional state, and resolving challenging behaviour: MHERA and ESTA. Also added new discussion on Maslow’s hiearchy of needs, the Human Givens’ framework of emotional needs, LIMA and the fun hiearchy.
  • 2023: Revised the resolving challenging behaviour chapter
Overall:
  • 2020: Self-assessment quizzes added to the course
  • There was no 2021 version of the course, so no changes made that year
  • 2022: A year of major revision, including adding search options to the whole course.
  • 2026: re-recording of all introductory videos

This alumni course option is only available if you’ve already taken one of the previous Animal Emotions courses.

It’s a low-tech solution, so we’ll have to add you to the real course manually. We’ll do that when the course opens for enrollment on January 23rd, and after that within 24 hours.

Welcome to re-join Animal Emotions in January of 2027!

Thank you
I learnt such a lot from the last course but I know a lot has slipped from memory so I thought rejoining for a reminder and an update on any new stuff would be a great idea

I really enjoyed the course and learnt a lot but could do with a reminder. Anything new will be a bonus. Look forward to starting.

I didn’t get to finish the course because of a long illness, so really glad that I can join for 20% of the price.. the course will be prolonged with another year?

It is the new improved course I guess? Or is it completly new, because in that case I have to work my ass off untill the end of the year , because I have access untill the end of the year. Already prolonged my subscription….

The 2020 version is not completely new, it’s a slightly revised version of the one you already have… this year I’m not foreseeing that many updates and changes. 🙂

Thank you for extending this opportunity to continue learning, growing, and improving! I am looking forward to mastering this material.

I am really looking forward to this second round of learning. The first time I finished, but I felt like I was slow in processing the information so I didn’t interact much with the group. I mean to try to connect more this time around. There is so much good information and I know it has already helped me offer more to my training clients in the way of explaining things to them to better the over all training and welfare of their dogs.

I am so happy that you ARE back! 🙂 And I so appreciate your thoughts and comments – really helpful! 🙂

I look forward to making it through the course this time around! Love the concepts and learning more about my animal friends.

Great! HOpefully I’ll see you next time around then! You’ll get a link to this page when it’s time! 🙂

Hi! I am so happy to be back.

I did not spend as much time as I had hoped for on the previous course (crazy year), but I am excited and ready to make up for it tenfold. This is a great platform, and I am truly happy for all the fantastic work you have done here, both Karolina and Tobias. This will be fun!

All the best, Pernilla

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity Karolina.
I have been unable to complete the 2020 version but now I am SO excited to do this and use it in rescue and rehab work 🙂

This is a wonderful opportunity. This time I will have more time to think about it (the first time a lot of time went into writing about it for our dutch trainers magazine LosVast). And, maybe, interact with the other participants as well. Great to be back!

Thanks so much for this offer Karolina. I’ve just rejoined – no brainer for me – one of the best and most influential courses I’ve ever done and I relish the opportunity to do it all again, processing and understanding at a deeper level. Fabulous!

Can’t thank you enough for recognizing that so many of us (your students) have a hard time keeping up for all our various reasons, and providing the offer to re-join at the very discounted rate. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to re-join at the full price this time. You’re amazing in so many ways… looking very forward to all the great education you offer….!!!

Dear Karolina,
It wasn’t possible to complete the Course in 2022. I have always been an excellent student, so… shame on me!
But I am glad that I managed to feed 90+ street cats every day, I took medical care of 70 sick or wounded cats & kittens and I helped 32 little kittens to find a permanent home. And all these took most of my time and energy… So, not possible for me to complete the Course! I was so sad.
Thank you so much for giving me the chance to continue my effort this year at a discount. My eyes have opened to the emotions and behaviours of the cats/kittens under my care, and not only!
Looking forward to the new course.

Don’t feel guilty about not completing the course, Poly – you’ve done really well! Hopefully this year you’ll finish..! 🙂 Welcome back!

Dear Karolina and Tobias,

I just tried to pay through the given PayPal page as a private person but for some reason at the end it told me that the payment was cancelled. Could you please get in touch with me privately about this?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,
It looks thare’s quite a lot of us here 🙂

PS.
Why do I have to choose capcha pictures to add a comment after logging in? 😮

I only needed to do it that one – first time. With every next comment I just need to repeat that I’m not a robot.

Today I needed to do it again. On the same device that it happened on previously.
And now when I’m trying to send this comment the system asks me for it again. On another computer and mobile phone I didn’t need to select pedestrian crossings or anything.

I think it’s because if the system knows the device you’re accessing the course from you don’t need to jump through that hoop. I also think there’s a 2-week period of grace before the system treats you like a stranger again. Technology… sigh!

Quite the oposite: it always asks me to choose images on one and only one device and never asks me on any other devices that I use. That first device has some issues with other pages as well, so it may be a combination of old hardware plus old software not being compatible with some features on some webpages. At least that is my guess.
(But I am a nerd and now I feel the will to test this hypothesis 🙂 )

I’m forwarding our conversation to Tobias, let’s see what he has to say! 🙂

Tobias says: sounds like her browser / unit is blocking a cookie from our site. It’s through the cookie that we know that she has proven not to be a robot.

Thanks so much! (just be sure not to spread this particular page, since this is only for previous students of the AE course!) 🙂

Thanks so very much, Susan – so glad to have been part of your educational journey! <3

I have taken it twice, never completed, gone through most modules, and I’ll keep on going. There’s so much to take in. It’s like having a super good reference book at hand and reaching for help when needed. Or preparing to situations!

I’m so glad to be here again. I wasn’t able to do much the last time as I needed to devote all of my time to caring for my husband in hospice care. I hope I’m now able to make time to learn a lot as my dog now needs it more than ever.

I did the course in 2022 and forgot to ask for the certificate. After that I did all the other courses and still feel I need to learn so much more. So I love to enter again and look forward to all the new updates.

Thank you so much! I ended up in many “Rabbit holes” and I allowed myself to fall down and learn even more. It was so exciting that the knowledge itself felt important. I have really taken time for my dog and thought about what he thinks and feels. I follow his emotional life and adapt more. When I have courses or meet people with dogs, I study what is happening in a more intensive way. I feel the team. I can better and in a simpler way explain to the person what we see and together we can figure out emotions and how it affects them. We can also talk about how the dog should feel and what we could do. You have helped me to both become a better dog person and I can help many others to understand their dog, which benefits the dogs. I look forward to learning even more! Now I got super excited about doing a restart and now I have a platform to stand on! It will be great fun!

I look forward to acquiring new knowledge and possibly challenging myself by taking part more actively in forum discussions, which I didn’t have the confidence to do last time.

Great to hear – welcome back, Jessica! 🙂 and don’t hesitate to join the discussions, people are really friendly and helpful! 🙂

Hi Karolina

I’d like to rejoin this year. Can you let me know how I can do that. I didn’t see a link.

Many thanks
Sharon

Hi Sharon, I sent out the email prematurely, so the link is there now! Sorry about that! 🙂

That is wonderful Karolina….I. Certainly need a refresher after a certain amount of upheaval and distractions… the timing is great too travelling on calm plateau and living with two cats and two horses and maybe a rescue dog. Thank you.

Hi Christine, at the bottom of the page there’s an option of choosing between whether you’re buying the course privately or not – just click the green text! 🙂

And thanks for letting me know, will look into making it easier to understand! 🙂

Yes, please. I need this to understand myself and my animals better. I have forgotten far too much with the horrible year I have had. Thank you for your help last year!!! It is much appreciated!

First time I did the course, I primarily had my horses in mind. Since a couple of weeks I am taking someone else’s dog (a Samoyed) on long walks so this of course made me read a lot about dogs and their happiness. So this time my brains will be focused on dogs too. Looking forward to it! Thanks for the alumini opportunity. Kind regards, Manon (ps I won’t be joining on FB, left social media 2 years ago and I am very happy about that :)).
