Advanced Animal Training – the alumni invitation

Welcome to rejoin me – and your fellow students – for another round of the AAT course! πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³

The 2024 course will be dismantled at the end of April 2025, so the only way to stay with the material beyond that deadline is to re-join as an alumnus.

Each year, the old course gets dismantled, so when you join again, it’s with all the new students, and with the modules released weekly as before, in a new and hopefully improved version of the course.

What’s new? Well, every year I lift new questions/answers from the comments section, and update the links lists. And of course the discussions are different every year! πŸ™‚ Also, I’ve made some big revisions or completely new chapters over the years since I created the course in 2018:

  • 2019: revised extrinsic / intrinsic chapter; added chapter on the overjustification effect; removed 4 chapters and revised others in the reinforcement schedules module and added chapter on errorless learning
  • 2020: added behaviourist definition of “superstitious behaviour”
  • 2021: added voluntary self-assessment quizzes to all modules
  • 2022: major adjustments to the negative reinforcement as well as the shaping module.
  • 2023: minor adjustments to the sections on Core Affect Space, Non-Reward Markers and Choice, R-, Emotions and Schedules of Reinforcement.
  • 2024: adjustments to Matching Law, added a section in the Shaping module related to gradual change procedures in all parts of the ABCs, as well as a kitty example of group training.
  • 2025: still unclear, I make revisions as the course is released. Will revise the chapter on extrinsic/intrinsic rewards as well as add examples of reflexive behaviour and overjustification.

This course offer (at US$89:-, slightly less than 20% of the full price) is only available if you’ve already taken the Advanced Animal Training course.

This year’s admissions period is now closed – the course opens again for enrollment in April of 2026.

Hello There! Thank you for offering this at a discount. I’ll enjoy reviewing the material for another year and certainly like having it on hand. I just sent payment. Thank you again!

Hooray! I am signed up as a returner and looking forward to having my brain squished and stretched again this year!

❀️ welcome back! And even if you don’t, you might still pick up something useful! πŸ™‚

I don’t do it, I don’t do it. yes, done!!!!πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

Yeah. Great to immerse my learning a bit deeper with more absorption. All the best and thank you for your generous offer. Orlando

The discussion on R- is very interesting. I have designed a new system being launched in May this year after 18months in testing. Some of the components like the 3 Point and 4 point side distributor lead are patent pending. We all use R- at some point. My goal was to make it as non confrontational as possible to the dog and human through adopting weight distribution and pulling from both centres of gravity. Oh interesting! Congratulations! Do you also have some explanatory material discussing the design? πŸ™‚

Hi Karolina

In Australia, we have very dangerous animals from kangaroos to snakes so I am a strong supporter of walking on a long line.
I am a big fan of Karolina Westlund, Dog*Biz, Grisha Stewart, Tellington TTouch, Mike Shikashio as well as several other trainers and they have all influenced my thinking and designs for harnesses, long lines, training techniques and systems.

Sometimes we just need to get a dog β€˜out of there’ and if we can do it painlessly and confidently to human and dog it is a β€˜win-win’.
My best friend is a retired international acrobat and owns the large local Indoor Rock Climbing Centre. We wanted the principle of Abseiling (strength and flexibility) but also to keep the hardware to a minimum so we kept with one belt, one carabiner and the Italian Hitch and created the accompanying flat long line, based on a horse lunge lead.

When walking 2 dogs the lines sometimes got tangled so my new confidence belts will include a Swivel that the Italian Style Carabiners clip on to.

With the Double Harness TechnologyTM, the dog gets a harness, comfort straps and one weight distributed 3 Point Distributor Lead and the human gets the other β€˜harness’ with the weight distribution Confidence belt and Comfort strap.

Sorry it won’t let me upload photos of the Swivel style Confidence Belt πŸ™‚

And it all started when you turned me into a geek a few years ago πŸ™‚

haha, you’ve really taken off! So great to hear! πŸ™‚ Best of luck with this new project! πŸ™‚ <3

Yes, thanks for offering the discount to alumni. I didn’t make through the last time I took advantage of the alum discount. I’m committed to making it through this time.
